SS5G1 The student will locate important places in the United States.
- Locate important physical features; include the Grand Canyon, Salton Sea, Great Salt Lake, and Mojave Desert.
- Locate important man-made places; include the Chisholm Trail; Pittsburgh, PA; Gettysburg, PA; Kitty Hawk, NC; Pearl Harbor, HI; and Montgomery, AL.

1. Teachers will demonstrate how to use Google Earth to "fly" to various U.S. locations. Following, students will search for listed landmarks independently.
2. Students will use Google Earth to record the latitude and longitude of important places in the United States to become familiar with locating them on a map. |

1. Teachers will divide student into groups and assign each group an important place. Students will then create a "wall" of interesting facts, videos, or pictures related to their assigned place.
2. Teachers will lead students in a group discussion of important U.S. places and characteristics of each. Student comments will be added to the class "wall" of important places during activity. |
