Meet Mrs. Nabors:
Hello Parents! My name is Hannah Nabors. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia and went on to the Medical College of Georgia where I earned my certification as a Child Life Specialist and Nursing Assistant. Most recently, I’ve completed my Master’s in Teaching-Special Education from Georgia Southern University. My academic accomplishments and many experiences with children, both in a medical and educational setting have prepared me to be your child’s teacher for the next 180 days with your support. As a parent and an educator, I realize how important it is to involve parents in your child’s daily learning experiences. We will be working closely together to ensure that your child reaches their maximum potential this year and comes home with a love of learning.
This will be an exciting year as we focus on inclusive learning, individualized instruction, best practices, Georgia Performance standards and creation of a classroom community. Each week you will receive a classroom newsletter. This will keep you informed on what is going on in the classroom such as instruction, field trips, and exciting learning opportunities. You are the expert on your child and you have a lot of valuable information to share on what makes your child unique. I encourage you to partner with me to help identify motivators and strategies for success.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions. I have listed my contact information on the classroom website where you can email me directly. I will be posting the newsletter as well as academic resources and updates on the website regularly. Please check back often.

First Week of School:
We have lots of activities planned for the first week of school! Starting at a new school is an exciting but scary experience for many students. This will be our orientation focus for the week so that you can talk to your student about their experiences. Please make sure your child is present and on-time each day!
Monday - Let's Explore Garden Lakes Elementary School
Your student will learn about school areas: restroom, office, media center, lunchroom, gym, and playground. This will help to reduce the anxiety level of getting lost and your child will begin to develop relationships with the school staff that will be providing support throughout each school day.
Tuesday – All About Bus Safety
All of the students in our class ride the bus to school in the morning so we will focus on bus safety. This is important as there are many field trip experiences planned during the school year. We will role play each bus rule so that you child understands the importance of bus safety. You will be able to watch a short video of our class explaining the bus rules on our class website.
Wednesday - The Magical Media Center
We will visit our award winning media center to expose your child to the many resources that are available to them. Our media specialist, Kathy Harwell (system wide media specialist of the year) will conduct a tour designed to help your child learn to navigate the media center. Each student will have the opportunity to check out a book of their choice to bring home for parent child reading.
Thursday - Garden Lakes Lunchroom
Our lunchroom provides hot breakfast and lunch to 637 students each day. The self serve meal plan offers excellent opportunities for your child to taste new food items and learn about nutrition. Our lunchroom manager, Caroline Ott, will conduct a behind the scenes tour and tasting for our class. We will focus on appropriate lunchroom manners and meal independence. You will want to mark your calendar for an upcoming parent child breakfast on September 12th.
Friday –Fun Friday at Garden Lakes
Your student will be matched with a sixth grade mentor. This will be a special relationship for both students. Your student and the mentor will compete in a fun scavenger hunt to reinforce the orientation instruction to learn about Garden Lakes School. Each student will bring home a photo of them with their mentor. Be sure to ask your child about their new friend.
